RLT connects with Simpson shelter
Staff members at Rudy Luther Toyota (RLT) put their cooking skills to use in July and August for an early morning breakfast and an evening dinner at the Simpson House, a shelter for the homeless in south Minneapolis.
Sales Manager Miranda Guptill and event organizer and shuttle driver Misha Supica pulled together a kitchen group of employees to satisfy hungry people.
The shelter offers dignity, respect, fairness, and assistance to find a home.
Despite some chaos in getting it ready, the evening meal fed 130 people on a Monday, Guptill explained. A filling spread of spaghetti, bread, salad and dessert was served by Supica, Mark and Sharla Beithon, Guptill, Tyler Hill, Andrew Murra, Janet Aldeman, and Chad Satre. They also brought boxes full of towels and toiletries for Simpson House residents.
RLT employees assembled at 5:30 a.m. for their first visit. The breakfast featured bagels, yogurt, scrambled eggs and oatmeal, Guptill said. The morning meal typically feeds 45 to 50 adult men and women. She thanked the group for giving up their “beauty sleep” to come and serve.
