The Luther Auto sponsored Rock ‘n Read Project, which boosts literacy for young students, has arrived at Odyssey Academy in Brooklyn Center. Director Melinda Crowley said students are excited.
The program uses music on interactive computers to teach reading to third- through sixth-grade students. Grade level performance is tested before and after the program. Executive Director Bill Jones has seen students improve by one to two grade levels on average. Reading ability is the greatest factor in a child’s ability to graduate from high school, Crowley explained.
It’s hoped that the program will help close the “achievement gap” between students. Learn more and view video at rocknreadproject.org.
