Employees at Westside Volkswagen came together on a late-August Sunday to raise funds for a coworker’s wife who is fighting cancer.
Patricia Allen, wife of service advisor Trevino Allen has accrued a lot of medical expenses after being treated for a type of colon cancer.
When the call for help went out, employees, stores and vendors answered.
“It’s cool how much people actually care,” said Tammy Ferguson, assistant controller at Westside. Employees contributed auction items and five other Luther stores or their employees helped out, including Family Buick in Fargo, she explained.
The benefit drew more than 150 to the store, and wasn’t short on silent auction items or activities for children. On the auction block was a new $800 Specialized bicycle, Minnesota Twins LUX Suite and regular Twins tickets, Gopher Football tickets, a Brainerd hotel stay and SCCA race tickets and a new Indian-brand motorcycle jacket valued at $250.
A live band, face painting and a bouncy house along with food from the grill kept participants and kids entertained. Even GM Steve Hendricks put his promotional skills on display. “Wow, its better and cheaper than the State Fair!” he said.
Several staff members showed up early that Sunday to move cars and prepare for the event.
