Partnering with North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale and the Brooklyn Park Police, Brookdale Buick calls in people trained in proper child seat securement to help area residents to get it right, explains Chris Johnson, the store’s accessories manager, who also handles community events.
North Memorial advertises the service and takes appointments while the store posts a sign along busy Brooklyn Boulevard. Drop-ins are welcome.
After hearing of Brookdale Buick’s relationship with Hennepin County Medical Center, North Memorial asked Johnson, “Are you interested?” He responded, “We’re not just interested, we’ll just do it.” Chevrolet also sponsors the events through its “Safe Kids Buckle Up” campaign.
“It’s one more thing the hospital and local organizations are trying to make sure kids are safe in child seats and booster seats,” Johnson said. Mothers and fathers and even a grandmother have come to the store for the free service and very few had been in the dealership before.
“You know what? The really cool thing is people are very appreciative,” said Johnson. “You do something for people and they hug you and thank you. We’re happy to have a place for them to do it.”
