Stop Hunger Now, a new organization to the Twin Cities, is working with Luther Auto’s “Drive To Serve” program to package a million meals for the hungry for Luther’s third annual effort, February 22 to 24.
“The biggest change we saw was that we had more customer participation last year,” said event planner Sharla Beithon with Motors Management. Packing 777,000 meals bound for Haiti in 2012, volunteer numbers were so great that some were turned away.
The excitement levels, with music, T-shirts and a much larger space than in 2011 led many to spread the word, Beithon explained. This year’s goal is 3,500 volunteers, spread through 10 two-hour sessions.
For 2013, Luther Auto is again providing the food and materials and partnering with the Emergency Foodshelf Network. Additional sponsors were also expected. And, Luther is collecting non-perishable food items and donating 25 cents for each bag of food packed to the Emergency Foodshelf Network. The event location is 6325 Sandburg Road, Golden Valley, Minn. Session reservations can be made online at drivetoserve.com
