Sean Devine was the grand champion in the Maple Grove Lighting Contest for three years running and he’s on the map for most Twin Cities bus and limousine tours. There’s no lack of interest for his home-based light show in Maple Grove, where passersby stop to take in the electric scenery.
With help from his wife, Sue, the new car manager at North Country Ford Lincoln spends almost every free hour in the month before Thanksgiving on setup for nearly 50,000 lights.
The tradition started with a competition between the two, Devine explains. She “went overboard” decorating the inside and he would try to outdo her with the exterior. “The outside has gotten so out of control that I can’t do it by myself,” Devine said.
“The neighbors love it, and we get many thank you notes every year,” he said. The show runs nightly until about 10:30 p.m., from Thanksgiving night until New Year’s Day.
